We supplied Bitumen to Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Sociedade Unipessoal Limitada, Mozambique for this EN6 road between the port of Beira and the town of Machipanda on the border with Zimbabwe. The project was a large-scale infrastructure initiative aimed at rebuilding and expanding the N6 highway in Mozambique, which is a crucial transportation route connecting the nation's capital, Maputo, with the northern and central areas of the country. The project includes rebuilding the highway's sections that were destroyed by Cyclone Idai in 2019 and expanding the road to increase its capacity and resilience to future natural disasters as well. The Mozambique N6 highway is situated in a region that is very vulnerable to hurricanes and other natural catastrophes, and the project has been intended to withstand these occurrences and lessen their impact on the transportation network. According to the project, 102 km of new roads were built and 185 km of roads were renovated and expanded.
A variety of measures are included in the project to increase the resilience of the highway, such as the building of new, flood-resistant bridges and culverts, the use of more durable building materials, and the installation of improved drainage systems to prevent water buildup on the road surface. The project also includes steps to enable the quick restoration of any damage caused by a hurricane or other natural disaster, as well as a thorough disaster risk management plan that includes early warning systems and evacuation routes.
The Mozambique N6 Reconstruction and Expansion Project is a sizable investment in the nation's infrastructure, and the focus it places on disaster preparedness and resilience is a crucial step in ensuring the long-term viability and sustainability of Mozambique's transportation network. The N6 road completion reduced the travel time from Mozambique's western border to the port of Beira from six to three hours fostering the growth of the agricultural, tourism, and other sectors along the route. It is now recognized as a crucial pillar in the national economic development of Mozambique.
The Project was on the list of 2020 Luban Prize for Overseas Engineering and also has been awarded the 2019 International Safety Awards set up by the British Safety Council.
